Special needs legislation has been successfully passed through the Mississippi Legislature that assists parents of special needs children searching for alternative options of educating their children and addressing their learning challenges.

State Sen. David Parker, R-Olive Branch, along with other lawmakers have helped to shepherd through a bill in the Senate that renews a provision that provides a dyslexia therapy scholarship voucher amounting to $5,000, which had been set to expire this June.

The scholarship provides an amount equivalent to what public school students receive under the Mississippi Adequate Education Program which provides funding for the state’s kindergarten through 12th-grade system.
