There has been talk that the state used to provide our school districts with 60% of their total funding and that number has decreased significantly over the years. I have reviewed the numbers from past to present and do not see any evidence of that for our district. I am providing you with a link below that will take you to the state superintendent’s annual report. This report clearly shows that the state provided DeSoto County with 56% of our total funding which = $143,755,960 in the most recent year provided on their website.
I encourage all of you to review this report, and then review previous years’ annual superintendent reports on the MDE (MS Department of Education) website. Look at the page or report titled revenue by funding source or revenue by district. These reports are all online and a matter of public record. Review the numbers for yourself! See what you think!
Before you vote to change our state constitution, I encourage you to be well informed on the facts pertaining to the state funding of our schools!
