Many people do not understand what the MAEP formula is. It is the formula used to determine how much money the state gives to a local school district. I do not expect anyone to review these 4 pages of the formula and understand it, and Unfortunately, most people want the funding issue to be black and white, which this issue clearly is not.
The MAEP concerns state funding. There are 3 sources of funding for school districts: federal, state and local. The state is the largest source of funding given to school districts. For those local areas that have a strong tax base, they are in better positions than the more rural and/or poverty stricken areas that do not have a strong tax base. Funding is a complex issue, and I wish there was an easy answer or solution.
I am sharing these pages, so you will understand what is going to be discussed at tonight’s meeting in Hernando. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
