Mills Heard of Lexington said he returned from a weekend trip to the Gulf Coast with his family to find the Mississippi state flag he flew above the carport at his home had been set on fire.
“It almost caught my carport on fire. It smutted up the wood underneath my carport,” Heard said.
He said although he had a bicycle, grille and other items under the carport, nothing was stolen and he has no idea who could be behind it.
“Obviously they were just trying to express dissatisfaction with the fact that I support the state flag and was flying it,” he said. “But when you come on a person’s private property and run the risk of setting their house on fire, that’s vandalism and trespassing and attempted arson.”
