A Rankin County schools assistant superintendent has been placed on administrative leave, and a candidate in the race to replace current superintendent Lynn Weathersby is calling it a “fear and intimidation tactic” by Weathersby.
Assistant Superintendent William Huskey was placed on administrative leave, school board President Grumpy Farmer confirmed on Wednesday.
Farmer said he did not know why the decision was made.
Numerous calls and emails to Rankin County School District spokeswoman Robin Haney were not returned.
Tonya Crain, who works as the director of federal programs under Huskey, was transferred to a job at a school, according to Farmer.
Superintendent candidate Sue Townsend, who is running against two other candidates for superintendent, said the move to place Huskey on administrative leave was a “fear and intimidation” tactic by Weathersby. She said she believes Huskey and Crain are her supporters in the election.
